Introduction to Novelon Tablet

Novelon tablet is an oral hormonal combination drug with two active ingredients called Desogestrel and Ethinylestradiol. It is a contraceptive used for birth control. This combines female sex hormones (estrogen and progestogen) to prevent egg release from the ovaries, thus preventing pregnancy. Additionally, it also treats dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea causes painful and irregular periods with symptoms like abdominal pain, digestive problems, fainting, vomiting, and nausea.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to Desogestrel, Ethinylestradiol, or its other ingredients. Before starting Novelon tablet, inform your doctor if you have allergies to estrogens or progestins, a history of breast cancer, eye problems, kidney, liver, or heart (stroke) diseases. Mention if you have migraines or diabetics, as the drug may affect blood sugar and headache intensity. Do not take this medicine if you have a history of certain blood clotting disorders (Before starting the medicine, inform your doctor if you have brown patches on your face or body (chloasma) and avoid excessive sun or ultraviolet light exposure. Also, let your doctor know if you have Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), hemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), sickle cell anemia, elevated levels of fat in the blood (hypertriglyceridemia), a family history of this condition, or if you need an operation or have recently given birth. Additionally, inform your doctor if you have inflammation in the veins under the skin (superficial thrombophlebitis) or varicose veins), liver tumor, or pancreatitis. Avoid consuming this medicine if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding or if you are taking specific medications for hepatitis C. Avoid using during an operation or prolonged immobility as it may increase the risk of blood clots. Avoid taking this medicine if you have severe diabetes with blood vessel damage, very high blood pressure, a very high level of fat in the blood (cholesterol or triglycerides), or a condition known as hyperhomocysteinemia.  It is not recommended for the children under 18 years.

Novelon tablet prevents pregnancy by stopping the release of eggs, slowing down sperm movement, and making the womb unsuitable for pregnancy.


Interaction of Novelon Tablet with other drugs

Inform your doctor about any prescribed medications, over-the-counter medicines, nutritional or vitamin supplements, and herbal products you take or have taken before the treatment. Certain medications may interact with Novelon tablet and cause undesirable side effects.

How to consume Novelon Tablet

Take the Novelon tablet tablet as your physician advises. Take the tablet at the fixed time.   Do not crush, chew, or open the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dosage and duration based on age, body weight, and disease condition. Only stop taking the tablet if your doctor advises you to stop.


Safety Advices for Novelon Tablet

 

Pregnancy

It is unsafe to use Novelon tablet during pregnancy. Before starting the treatment, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant or think you may be pregnant.

 

Breast Feeding

It is unsafe to use Novelon tablet during breastfeeding. So, before starting the treatment, inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Contact your doctor for more information.

 

Lungs

It is unknown whether the Novelon tablet is safe for patients with lung problems. Inform your physician if you have any lung disease before starting the treatment. Contact your doctor if you experience any lung-related symptoms.

 

Liver

Novelon tablet tablets should be used cautiously in patients with liver conditions. Before initiating the treatment, inform your doctor about pre-existing liver conditions. Dose adjustment is needed in such conditions.

 

Alcohol

It is advised to consume alcohol cautiously while taking a Novelon tablet injection is safe. Please speak with your physician.

 

Driving

Novelon tablet is not known to significantly affect driving ability for most people. It is considered safe to drive while taking this oral contraceptive. However, if you experience any side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
